Scientist - Upstream BioProcess Development

The Role:
We are seeking a scientist who will take on an instrumental role in the generation of robust upstream processes to enable the production of exosome-based therapeutics. This is a unique opportunity to contribute experimentally, as well as intellectually, to the process development of a novel gene therapy platform. As part of a start-up, the successful candidate will also be uniquely exposed to the full range of company activities.

Primary Responsibilities include:

• Apply bioprocessing experience in the design and execution of bioreactor experiments to identify and validate critical parameters that affect upstream bioprocess performance across multiple scales.
• Drive innovation and continuous improvement to mammalian bioprocesses
  Identify areas for technological development and advance projects to implement new technologies
• Scale up of upstream processes (10-200L)
• Deliver product specific and platform documentation such as SOPs, process flow diagrams and reports ensuring appropriate quality of documentation to support inclusion of data and information
• Recommend, acquire and maintain equipment suitable for current industry-standard upstream bioprocessing

Qualifications:

• PhD or MSc in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering or similar
• Minimum of 3 years relevant experience
• Hands-on experience in process development/scale-up for biologics or gene and cell therapies
• Knowledge of medium formulation development and stirred bioreactors runs
• Open minded with excellent problem-solving skills, as well as the confidence to work within a fast-paced research field
• Strong written and verbal communicator in English

Desired Qualifications:

• Design of experiments (DOE) skills
• Knowledge and experience with perfusion cultivation
• Knowledge and experience with monoclonal cell banking and seed trains
• Knowledge and skills with TFF/ATF, chromatography, and clarification at lab- and pilot-scale
• Publications in peer-reviewed journals
